We’re Rounding Up Resources to Help You!
While we’re all stuck at home, Well-Trained Mind will be sending you helpful resources each week.
FREE ONLINE CONFERENCE
Next week, the Brave Writer & The Well-Trained Mind invite you to a free online conference for homeschoolers and “suddenly-at-home” parents. We’ll have webinar events for parents and kids from Susan Wise Bauer, Julie Bogart, Jim Weiss, Kate Snow, Melissa Wiley, and more!
This free conference begins Monday. Details here.
RESOURCES
–Math Geek Mama posted a FREE set of Cupcake Math problems to help your kids learn about money.
–Scholastic has fantastic website with all kinds of free videos, articles, and activities for kids and parents across a wide range of topics and ages. Lots of fun and educational material here.
—Club SciKidz Maryland is posting cool experiments using household objects every day. Each one also includes links to useful, kid-friendly videos.
–For those of you who are putting together some history lessons, here’s a good article with five tips for teaching History to Logic Stage (middle-school) students, by educator Mattias Caro.
–And here is a huge list of companies that are providing FREE and discounted resources during the school shutdown.
SMILES
–Josh Gad (the voice of Olaf from Frozen) is posting videos each evening in which he reads children’s books. Our kids loved it!
–Some penguins got the chance to wander around the Shedd Aquarium while all the visitors were away.
–The Iditarod, a 938-mile dogsled race through the wilds of Alaska, is happening right now, and is perhaps the only major sporting event in America that hasn’t yet been shut down. (The Iditarod commemorates a 1925 journey in which sled dogs delivered life-saving medicine to Nome, Alaska.) It’s thrilling to watch these racers, men and women of all ages, and their amazing dogs–incredible athletes who love to run. Here’s a beautifully illustrated book introducing you and your kids to sled dogs and their adventures.
That’s all for now! And don’t forget that we’re giving away all our audio “how-to-homeschool” workshops and lectures for free, and that you can save 20% on any purchases from our store with the coupon code STUCKATHOME.
